Otis & Eleanor + MASHBURN Bongo Portable Speaker

Our friends at Otis & Eleanor created an incredibly solid portable speaker. Aesthetically, it’s great — it’s not consciously “retro,” but it’s also not quite as aggressively modern as the other stuff on the market… no brushed steel or black mesh here. And sonically, it’s fantastic. They were kind enough to let us play with the details: white bamboo wood, brass speaker grilles, and brass screws to echo the interiors of our shops. Not only does wood sound great – super warm, super resonant – but bamboo is one of the most sustainable materials on the planet. We loved their vision of unplugging the headphones and enjoying music in a less private, more communal way – the same feeling you used to get when you’d bring your Akai speakers to the beach and play mixtapes for all your friends on the Walkman. We’ve had this Bongo M1 around the office and the house, and throwing it into social situations always gets a few “whoa”s and “this is cool”s. It also moonlights as a speakerphone, so you can get everyone on the call. We’re older now – we’ve come a long way from the Akais – but the vibe is the same: people get excited about portable music.
