Phaidon This Brutal World

Peter Chadwick
Atlas Obscura calls this a “celebration of controversial concrete,” which is a pretty fitting description. Shot entirely in black-and-white, it's a visual compendium of great Brutalist works by all the usual suspects (Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Kahn, Paul Rudolph and Marcel Breuer) as well as more contempory architects like Zaha Hadid and David Chipperfield. There's some commentary and quotations throughout, but this book is heavy on visuals. Makes a great gift for architecture and design freaks, hardcore Brutalists, or just people who like to have beautiful books sitting out on their coffee tables.
