Rizzoli Stan Smith: Some People Think I'm A Shoe

Stan Smith
Did 8-year-old Trevor Smith know what he was doing when he asked, "Dad, are you named after the shoe?" Well, maybe. The question may have been more cheeky than innocent, but of course, the most popular sneaker in the free world was named after his father, tennis great Stan Smith. This book is a visual celebration of the iconic green-and-white tennis shoe that's been worn by everyone from Baryshnikov to Bowie to Bollywood stars. And, oh yeah, Stan himself. He admits that “when the shoe came out with my photo on the tongue, I kept looking at it during my matches and it was distracting, humbling, and exhilarating.” Can't say we blame him! His own collection is about 60 pairs strong. The book includes personal anecdotes about his life and career, over 200 photographs of the sneakers worn throughout history, and a foreword by Pharrell Williams. It's fantastic.
